Landowner talks about GMO sugar beet vandalism

ASHLAND, Ore. -- Earlier this month genetically modified crops in Jackson County were vandalized, now the Federal Bureau of Investigation is calling the crime economic sabotage.Howard Miller says the vandalism on his land makes him feel violated, more than 5,000 genetically modified plants were pulled out.Years worth of work is ruined for the sugar beet seed company that is leasing the land from Miller.Oregon's Department of Agriculture is commenting on the case.Department director Katy Coba says she's shocked and disappointed by the destruction, regardless of how one feels about bio-technology, there is no justification for committing these crimes. And it is not the kind of behavior we expect to see in Oregon agriculture.Miller says he's concerned the crime could hurt future grows in the valley. He says the crime scene featured several sets of foot prints, so the crime was likely committed by more than one person. If you have any information on the case, call the FBI.

Walmart will soon be stocking their shelves with GMO corn developed by Monsanto despite of all the protests by activists. Millions of Americans shop at Walmart, but that doesn't mean that they all know what they're getting as they check out in shopping centers across the country. The retail giant says they won't advertise which of their products are made with genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, which could become a big problem very soon. RT's Liz Wahl is joined by Ken Abala, history professor at University of Pacific and author of "The Lost Arts of Hearth and Home" to speak about what does it all mean for the corn consumer.

Step 1: Avoid anger triggers
Avoid anger triggers. If Friday night cocktails with your co-workers has turned into a weekly bitchfest that makes your blood boil, find something more uplifting to do.

Step 2: Adjust your attitude
Adjust your attitude. For instance, remind yourself that screaming and honking is not going to make traffic move faster.

Step 3: Laugh away annoyances
Laugh away little annoyances before you work yourself up into a lather. For example, if the boss is being a jerk, steal 5 minutes to read jokes on the Internet.

Tip
Remember: there will always be problems in life that you can't control, but you can always control your reaction to them.

Step 4: Breathe deeply
Take a few deep breaths from your diaphragm, so your stomach and not just your chest rises. It's a cliché for a reason: It works.

Step 5: Count to 10
Slowly count to ten when you feel your temper rising. Often we react out of pure emotion without stopping to think about what's really irritating us or how we can respond rationally.

Step 6: Postpone your anger
Recognize that you're angry, but postpone it for a more convenient time. Tell yourself that you have every right to be upset, but you'll be able to deal with the problem more effectively if you calm down and think about it first.

Step 7: Exercise
Exercise regularly to help release everyday tension and stress so they don't build up -- and then explode. A slow, controlled practice, like yoga, can help focus and calm the mind.

Step 8: Don't drink
Skip the liquor when you're livid. Booze stokes anger by lowering levels of serotonin, a brain chemical that promotes calmness.

Step 9: Be forgiving
Be more forgiving -- it's for your own good. A study found that forgiving lowers anger and physical stress symptoms.

Did You Know?
An estimated 16 million Americans exhibit intermittent explosive disorder, or repeated aggressive, violent behavior that's out of proportion to the situation -- like road rage.

Genetic engineering: The world's greatest scam?

Genetic engineering is a threat to food security, especially in a changing climate. The introduction of genetically manipulated organisms by choice or by accident grossly undermines sustainable agriculture and in so doing, severely limits the choice of food we can eat.

Once GE plants are released into the environment, they are out of control. If anything goes wrong - they are impossible to recall.

GE contamination threatens biodiversity respected as the global heritage of humankind, and one of our world's fundamental keys to survival.

Top 5 GMO's That Might Surprise You

Now, we all may have heard something about GMO's, or genetically modified organisms, sneaking their way onto our dinner plates or into our favorite restaurants, food products, and the shelves of our supermarkets. Now usually you hear about Genetically Modified Corn and Soy, but here's a Run List Brief of some common GMO's you might not have heard of.

1. Canola Oil- Canola oil actually is derived from rapeseed oil, an industrial oil used for many years until it was banned for human consumption by the FDA in 1956 due to its toxic acid content. Then in 70's, Canadian growers engineered out the toxic acid content and Canola oil was born. Canola Oil is used to fry many popular potato chips and snacks, as well as being a main ingredient in most commercial margarines.

2. Papaya- Really?! Papaya's?! For many years, the Hawaiian Papaya Industry was plagued with the ringspot virus. In the 1980s, the industry experimented with genetically modified varieties that were resistant to the virus. The "viral capsid," basically the thing that holds the virus' genetic information, was added into Papaya's genetics to create the resistance. These modified Papayas make up about 3/4's of Hawaiis Papaya crops, which are welcomed onto US and Canadian shelves year round.

3. Milk- What? Something as innocent as an Oreo's best friend is now the victim of genetic modification. The majority of milk in the US comes from cows treated with rBGH, which is synthesized from a modified bacteria to have cows produce higher milk yields by keeping milk producing cells alive longer than normal. Is anyone else thirsty? Agencies in the US state there is no difference between rBGH milk and organic, regular milk, though it is banned in the European Union and Australia. Experts say that rBGH cows are more likely to develop disease, which means more antibiotics, which means more traces of antibiotics in the milk supply.

4. Squash- Squash has a weaker resistance to viral disease than most crops, and so several varities, in particular yellow summer squash, have been genetically modified to ensure crop survival. It's also believed that the modified squash has accidentally found its way into the wild. So what does that man for wild squash? No one knows! Maybe nothing, maybe unprecedented damage to the ecology of wild squash, such as gene transfer and genetic degeneration. Most squash species found in the market are GMO unless listed otherwise.

5. Salmon- Now Salmon is already controversial because of concerns over fish farms, but now a company called AquaBounty Technologies has quote, "developed" a modified breed of Salmon. A growth hormone has been added so the fish grows to market size in around a year and a half as opposed to 3 years for natural salmon. Potential health risks have not yet been fully documented and the possibility of the "AquAdvantage salmon" outcompeting natural salmon, if released into the wild is very real. The UN expects farmed fish consumption to outpace world wide beef consumption by almost 10 percent within 5 years.

So what do you guys think? Is it necessarily a bad thing to genetically modify crops to ensure production? Or do you think things are moving ahead way to fast without anyone really know what the long term consequences of GMO's might be. Be sure to subscribe and leave your thoughts below, thanks for watching.

Step 1: Exercise regularly
Perform at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise, three to five times a week. For best results, aim to work at 65% to 85% of your maximum heart rate, or MHR.

Tip
Calculate your estimated MHR by subtracting your age from 220. For example, if you are 40 years old, your estimated MHR would be 180.

Step 2: Increase the intensity
Increase your exercise intensity every two weeks. Add more minutes to your cardio sessions, maintain your heart rate closer to 85% of your max, or increase the distances of your runs and bike rides.

Tip
Do interval training once or twice a week to boost your exercise intensity without having to take up extra time. Add sprints to your runs, crank up the levels on a stair master, or add hills to your runs or bike rides.

Step 3: Eat smart
Eat plenty of fruit, vegetables and lean protein, and cut back on saturated fats. A healthy diet can reduce levels of cholesterol, a fatty substance that can cause plaques, scarring and inflammation in the heart.

Tip
Take the talk test for an easy way to monitor your level of exertion. If you can recite the pledge of allegiance without having to gasp for air, you're exercising in a suitable zone.

Step 4: Cut out junk food
Decrease the amount of sugared foods, fried foods, and junk foods in your daily diet, and before you know it you'll be on your way to a better ticker.

Did You Know?
Your heart pumps blood through your entire body at least 1000 times each day.

Why doesn't Santo or Satan use GMO in the cafeterias they use at their plants. Why do the CEOs have chefs follow them on business trips? Why do the execs all have plots of organic land on personal property? Accidental mix? I think not. Good vid we need more awareness

Step 1: Grow up
Grow up. If you want your parents to stop treating you like a child, make sure you never give them an excuse by acting like one. That means no yelling or whining, no matter how much they aggravate you.

Step 2: Keep your parents in the loop
Keep your parents in the loop. You don't have to tell them everything, but the more open you are with them, the less they'll feel the need to pry.

Tip
Remind yourself that your parents want what's best for you. Can you honestly say that about many other people in your life?

Step 3: Show them respect
Show them respect. If you wouldn't roll your eyes, openly mock, or constantly interrupt a friend who was saying something you disagreed with, then don't do it to your folks.

Step 4: Be honest
Be honest: Are most of your arguments over stuff you know in your heart they're right about—like your slacker lifestyle or disastrous romantic choices? Consider that the person you may really be angry with is yourself.

Tip
Find something to thank your parents for every day, even if it's just the meatloaf your mom made because she knows it's your favorite. Studies show the simple act of saying "thank you" powerfully impacts how a person treats you.

Step 5: Stop taking the bait
Stop taking the bait. If your parents bring up an annoying subject, listen politely, then change the subject. You're not likely to change each other's minds, but you can navigate these minefields by controlling your reactions.

Did You Know?
About a quarter of teen boys say they fight with their parents about video games or their music choices, whereas teen girls tend to argue over cell phone use, according to a 2007 Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll.

Maine passes GMO labeling law

Last week, Connecticut became the first state to require the labeling of GMO foods for consumers, but now they are not alone. The state of Maine has now joined in the fight for mandatory GMO labeling and will require food producers to identify genetically modified food. Jim Gerritsen, co-owner of Wood Prairie Farm, gives us his take on the legislation.

How to Build Rapport with People at First Meeting?

Please subscribe to my channel:https://www.youtube.com/sixthgalaxy

Your personal success will be much easier if you can build rapport with the person who can help you. With the help of rapport building skills you can easily connect with the strangers, colleagues or anyone you are interested in. The following are the list of most powerful and proven tips to establish strong rapport with people.

Common Ground
Try to find a common ground to talk about. When people share their views or interests, try to relate you with that. Ask questions to learn about people's interests, work ,views or about anything. Remember that most of the people love talking about their interests and would be happy to find someone who listen to them.

Tell a story
Tell an interesting or unusual story that may interest the person whom you want to build a rapport with. Notice that if the person is listening your carefully. If they seem to be not interested, slowly change the topic or ask questions to move on a different topic
Facts: have you thought why you want to talk to the same sales person of a shop where you go for shopping more frequently?

Listen Actively
When someone share their thoughts with you, listen to him/her carefully and maintain your non-verbal communications- nodding your head, smiling, eye contact etc. Restate and ask questions to clarify what he/she is talking about. If you agree with someone's view, acknowledge it.

Match Energy Level and Posture
It is also known as mirroring. Match the overall posture, feet movement, hands position, facial expression, gestures, voice, eye contact, breathing, personal style and thinking patterns. Remember not to copy people exactly.
Fact: when you match the energy level of someone, they unconsciously feel that you understand what they are talking about.

Match Emotion
This is another matching technique-it works in emotional level. You should try to match the emotion of the other person. If somebody is angry, do not speak calmly. At first match their emotional state and speak loudly-match the emotional energy level. Acknowledge their emotion by telling them that you understand why they are angry. Only by matching the emotional level you can send a signal that you understand how someone is feeling.

Rapport in a Group
If you need to join meetings or group discussions frequently, then you need to build a rapport with , which is more challenging than doing the same with a person. More or less, follow the three principals- make good eye contact with everyone, match the energy level of the person in charge and try to match the overall energy of the entire group

Kraft Foods Denies GM Wheat but ADMITS GMO in Products

http://truthstreammedia.com/kraft-foo...
FoodBabe.com: Illegal GMO Wheat in Mac & Cheese?
http://foodbabe.com/2013/05/30/illega...

Truthstream Media followed up on a report a report by Vani Hari at Foodbabe.com that boxes of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese imported to the U.K. were showing up with a label warning the product contained genetically modified wheat. As no forms of GMO wheat are legally approved for cultivation or sale anywhere in the world, we investigated further, contacting both Kraft and the distribution company that placed the label to get the bottom of it.

We started by contacting the company's customer service number. Listen as the representative admits their products have been 'enhanced by biotechnology' so some of their products 'do contain ingredients from these crops'.

Although Kraft's spokesperson responded to us in an official statement claiming there is no GMO wheat in their flagship Macaroni & Cheese product, the fact that the company refuses to remove potentially cancer-causing artificial dyes from the U.S. version of their product (dyes already absent from their international versions), in addition to the admitted presence of GMO in their food further proves that people need to take back control of what they are eating from these giant corporations who appear to be putting profits above people.

How Will Budgeting Help Me? | Wise Money Academy Video 003

Do you know what percentage of lottery winners waste all their winnings within a few years?
Write down your best guess on a sheet of paper.
If you guessed 70% - Yes 7 out of 10 -- Lottery Winners lose it all within a few years, you guessed correctly.
Do you know what percentage of NBA and NFL professional athletes are broke or go bankrupt within 5 years after they retire?
Write down your best guess on a sheet of paper.
If you guessed 60% - Yes 6 out of 10 - professional basketball and football players go broke or bankrupt within just 5 years after they retire, you guessed right.
Isn't that amazing?!
The point is that people without money skills often make poor financial choices, regardless of how much money they have. Let me repeat this, because it is important for you to remember: People without money skills often make poor financial choices, regardless of how much money they have.
These statistics show how important it is to become financially educated. You don't want to be one of these statistics. No matter how much money you have, learning how to budget well will make a big positive difference in your life. Properly managing your money will give you a well-managed, effective life plan.
The key to great money-management is learning basic financial strategies that make you proficient. Proficient means to be advanced or skilled in a certain area.
The two most important skills in good money management are how to spend and how to save. Knowing how to spend wisely and having sound saving strategies will guide you toward a balanced and complete life.
It's important to master how to create a personal budget. A personal budget is simply a plan for how to handle your money, or a roadmap to get you the money you need to live the lifestyle you prefer.
The main benefits of budgeting are the following:
- Control - Knowing how much money have at any given moment puts you in the driver's seat of your life!
- Organization - Keeping things organized and having a useful system is very important. Having a plan keeps you organized.
- More money - Working with a written budget will leave you with more money every month.
- Opportunities - Staying disciplined and sticking with your budget will create many financial windows of opportunity to invest and grow your fortune.
Do you know the difference between a need and a want? I'll give you a second to write down what you think the difference is.
Ready? A need is something you must have for your survival - something you just cannot live without. Things like food, shelter and clothing are examples of needs.
A want, on the other hand, is something you would like to have -- something that isn't absolutely necessary for your survival, but that you would enjoy having. Your iPod, designer jeans, skiing vacations, XBox and other fancy toys and gadgets are examples of wants.
A good money manager knows how to have enough money to cover all her needs while purchasing wants only when she has the extra money to do so.
Now, let's talk about tracking your spending. This is very important to achieving financial success. The first thing to track is your Fixed Expenses, or the things that cost the same amount every month - like rent, car payments and insurance. Some people like to use Excel spreadsheets to track these items.
There are also Fixed Expenses you pay once every year -- like your car registration, gym membership dues and anything else you pay for once per year. You can look at these items monthly, too. For instance, if it costs you $240 per year to be a member at the gym, enter $20 per month for your monthly gym expense.
Next, let's discuss Tracking your Variable Expenses. We all have cash that seems to just disappear each month -- like grabbing a strawberry smoothie or a Hello Kitty pencil set. To get a handle on spending, write down every dollar you spend and use a money diary (or journal) to help you see where your money goes. Saving receipts, carrying a small notepad, or using a cell phone app can also help you. It's really a matter of what you're comfortable with. Or, you could just limit yourself to using only cash -- give yourself an allowance of a certain amount of cash every week to spend and stop spending when you have run out of that amount of cash. After one month, you will have a much better idea of how much money you are spending.
You will start to see patterns and have better ideas of how to make improvements with your spending habits. The most important first step is becoming aware of your habits. That will put you on your way to building a workable budget.
Creating a Budget --
First, put money into a savings account.
Pay your necessary expenses (Needs)
Money leftover is yours to spend as you wish (Wants)

How to throw a knife revisited

This is a short version tutorial on how to throw knives. This is a class demonstrates how to throw knives for beginners. Learn how to throw knives and you'll impress all your friends.

You will need three things to learn how-to throw knives.
Throwing knives
A Target
Adherence to rules of safety

Warning: Knives are dangerous to throw. Throw at your own risk and they should never be thrown at others.

Types of throwing knives
Throwing knives should not be sharp on the edge. The point of the knife and the weight determines the best quality throwing knives.

The Grip
There are many different types of grips like the hammer grip and pinch grip. In this video, we use a pinch grip. Pinch the blade between your thumb and index finger. Your thumb should line up with the spine of the blade.

The Throw
With the throw, bring the blade up to the side of your head and point your elbow at the target. Unlike a baseball throw that goes across your body, the knife throw goes straight down and extends out to the target like your pointing at where you want to throw. The body rocks forward with the throw.

The Distance
The proper distance is important for a proper spin knife throw. The 7' range is a ½ spin to the target and the knife is gripped by the blade. At the 11' range, the knife spins one full revolution to the target and it's gripped by the handle. At the 15' range, the knife turn 1 ½ times to the target and it's gripped by the blade.

Making adjustments
Where you stand is very important to getting the knife to stick in the target straight. Minor adjustment to your position will be necessary depending on the throw. At the line, make your first throw. If the knife over-rotates or sticks into the target with the handle tilted upwards, inch forward in your stance and throw again. If the knife under-rotates or sticks into the target with the handle tilted downwards, inch back in your stance and throw again.

Remember that consistency of the grip and throw are a necessity to hit the target accurately. Keep practicing until you become adept at hitting your target.

'March Against Monsanto' Anti-GMO Protest in Los Angeles

Waving signs that read "Hell no, GMO" and "Monsanto - True Evil," hundreds of protesters gathered in Los Angeles, CA on Saturday to demonstrate against genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and the companies that produce them. Despite a growing consensus from major scientific organizations that there is no harm associated with GMOs, those that turned out remained firm in their belief that genetically engineered food is dangerous and rejected contrary views as "lies" or simply the product of scientists bought off by the industry.

Reason TV visited the "March Against Monsanto" rally to find out what the protesters hoped to accomplish and why they continued to reject the prevailing pro-GMO science.

About 5 minutes.

Filmed and Edited by Sharif Matar and Patrick Bowers.
